Utility Worker Hit! Killed By City Vehicle

A city of Houston worker died after he was run over by a city vehicle.

The accident happened on Jackson near Gray in Midtown about 2:30 p.m.

A two-person crew was flushing sewer lines in the area, officials said.

Investigators said the truck suddenly moved toward the worker, who was the driver.

The worker tried to stop the truck, but he was pinned up against a fence and crushed, investigators said.

The worker died at the scene. His name has not been released.

Investigators are working to determine if there was a mechanical problem with the truck or if the driver didn’t put the truck in the proper gear.

The second person in the crew was covering a manhole when the accident happened, officials said.
